French Reformed Church (Königsberg)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The French Reformed Church was a church in Königsberg . It was on the corner of Koenigsstrasse and Landhofmeisterstrasse. From 1733–1736 it was built by Joachim Ludwig Schultheiss von Unfriedt as an elongated decagon for Huguenots who fled France . The tower on the dainty rococo building remained unfinished. The church had an almost square central room, which was surrounded by elliptical side aisles supported by columns. An organ was installed in 1739.

The sermons were always in French. Her preacher La Canal and the councilor Prin achieved a reduction in the war tribution from 20 to 12 million francs in the Peace of Tilsit in 1807 . From 1817, German preaching took place every 4th Sunday; from 1831 French only every 4 weeks. In 1847, the preacher Louis Guillaume Daniel Detroit renounced the Athanasian Confession in the pulpit and was deposed in 1852.
