Franz Hilf - Franziskaner for People in Need is an internationally active Franciscan relief organization based in Vienna.
structure
The registered association is a cooperation partner of the Mission Center of the Franciscans in Bonn. The aid organization is a certified OSGS donation center, bears the Austrian seal of approval for donations and is on the list of beneficiaries of donations.
history
The organization (formerly Franciscans for Central and Eastern Europe) was founded in 1995 by the Viennese Franciscans as an Eastern European Aid Organization and for many years it was headed by Fr Ulrich Zankanella OFM, who wanted to specifically support the charitable work of the Franciscans in Central and Eastern Europe. In 2013 the association's activities were expanded to the global south . In the same year, Father Oliver Ruggenthaler OFM took over the management from Franz Hilf.
Principles
The charity identifies the association with the basic idea of the founder of the order, Francis of Assisi , to live the Gospel in solidarity with the poor and in harmony with nature. With this in mind, it supports projects in the regions of the world where the need is greatest: in the global south as well as in Central and Eastern Europe. In addition to concrete help, Franz Hilf also provides educational, awareness-raising and human rights work.
Project work
The organization supports more than 80 aid projects a year. The funding criteria are social and ecological sustainability and the strengthening of ' helping people to help themselves '. In addition, local Franciscans are directly involved in project development and elaboration and are jointly responsible for the implementation and evaluation of the funded projects.
financing
The organization is financed through donations and grants. A benefit concert with well-known musicians and artists takes place annually for the benefit of Franz Hilf. The proceeds from the concert flow into the project work.
