Franz Rontag (born September 3, 1897 , † November 2, 1980 in Vienna ) was an amateur photographer and master of multi-color bromine oil transfer printing .

Life

Rontag lived in Vienna, began his professional career as a machinist, and also worked for a few years in Holland, where he began to take photographs. Before the Second World War he founded a family and after the war he worked for the Austrian Chamber of Commerce, where he distinguished himself as a consultant for the further training of apprentices on an international level.

Franz Rontag was an amateur photographer, gave photography courses and lectures at adult education centers in Vienna and was recognized and honored in national and international photo exhibitions in the 1930s. His numerous 3-color bromine oil transfers aroused international interest. He exhibited in Antwerp (Iris Kerst Salon, 1933/34), at the III. International Exhibition of the Union of Austrian Amateur Photographers Associations (1934), in the Premier Salon International de Charleroi (Belgium, 1934), in the Birmingham Photographic Society, at the Exhibition of Color Photographs at the University of Cambridge Camera Club (1936), in Hampshire House Photographic Society (1936) and the Oxford University Camera Club (1937). His name is listed in the biobibliography of the Albertina's photo collection .

In addition to the internationally known portraitist Franz Katolicky, he was named as an outstanding “color artist”.

Franz Rontag presented around 60 motifs in multi-color bromine oil transfers and in large-format slides and stereo images.
