Franz Sikora (painter)
Franz Sikora (* 1895 in Lipine , district of Beuthen ; † 1980 ) was a German draftsman, painter and graphic artist. Sikora enjoyed training as a draftsman, he learned painting by himself, he worked in Katowice and, after 1950, in Berlin. Sikora was a representative of the New Objectivity , worked mainly as a portraitist and landscape painter and was a member of the Silesian Artists 'Union and in 1928 co-founder of the Katowice artists' group.
Live and act
Franz Sikora was born in Lipine in Upper Silesia in 1895 as the son of a smelter and had nine siblings. He was a soldier in World War I and was seriously wounded. Then Sikora went on study trips to the Netherlands, Paris, Vienna and Krakow. After a stopover in Breslau, he moved to Katowice.
During his work in the Upper Silesian industrial area he painted a. a. Pals, directors, women and beggars. His works, around 300 oil paintings, watercolors, sketches and drawings that he had painted and collected in Katowice until 1945, were confiscated by the Polish state. Sikora came to Jena in early 1945 and moved on to Berlin in 1950. He probably created his last works in the 1950s.
