Fraser Institute

The Fraser Institute is a libertarian-conservative think tank headquartered in Vancouver , Canada .

The institute was founded in 1974 by Michael Walker and deals with questions of economy, society and the environment. It propagates a stability-oriented financial policy and economic competition without restrictions. A stronger integration into the US economy and privatizations are called for , but also the relaxation of gun laws and the legalization of marijuana. Excessive government spending, budget deficits, high taxes and government measures against global warming are criticized . Among other things, the institute has published the Economic Freedom of the World Report annually since 1996 .

The think tank actively promotes the denial of man-made global warming through subsidiaries . It is financed by funds from ExxonMobil , Koch Industries and Richard Mellon Scaife, among others .

The Fraser Institute's support for the tobacco industry and defamation of scientific studies on the risks of smoking have drawn harsh criticism, as have its campaigns against statutory minimum wages .

The Fraser Institute is registered as a non-profit organization and is funded by donations and membership fees. Donors include ExxonMobil , Imperial Oil , Procter & Gamble and the Thomson Corporation . The institute has offices in Calgary and Toronto .
