Frastanz Frastafeders castle ruins

Castle Hill

Frastafeders Castle (also: Frastanz Castle ) in Klöslefeld (Schloßbühl), which has been mentioned several times in documents, was clearly identified archaeologically through the excavations under the direction of Wilhelm Sydow in 1988. The castle probably existed from the middle of the 13th century , was loaned to Ulrich Thumb in 1217 and probably destroyed on August 3, 1344. The childless Ulrich von Montfort (Ulrich II.) Was imprisoned here in 1344. The castle probably consisted of a single keep with an area of 8 x 10 meters and was 15 to 20 meters high, surrounded by a ring wall. The walls were about 1.5 to 2 meters thick. It is not known whether it was rebuilt after 1344. The ruins are documented in the Emser Chronicle by Johann Georg Schlehs around 1616 . Only the castle hill is preserved and visible today.

Say

In the parcel in which Frastafeders Castle was located, a house is said to have stood later, which was guarded by a woman during the Sunday service. She saw a heap of golden yellow leaves in the meadow, went and took a leaf and went back into the house. The foliage turned into a piece of gold. When she turned to fetch more, she saw a ghost gather the pile and quickly disappear with it.

There are several other legends from and about Frastanz that have to do with Frastafeders Castle.
