history

Frau und Mutter appeared for the first time in 1909 under the title Die Mutter as a monthly newspaper for women of the Volksverein for Catholic Germany . In 1913 the magazine became a monthly for Catholic women . The editing was in the hands of Otto Müller and Rosa Breuer . The main content was everyday issues and problems of family life. In the 1920s, “ The Mother ” became the “Monthly for Catholic Women and the Association of Christian Mothers' Works”. In 1928, after the mothers' associations of the individual dioceses had merged to form a general association, it changed its subtitle to “Journal of the Association of Catholic Women and Mothers' Associations in Germany - Emissaries of the Apostle Prayer” and became a membership journal for around 850,000 members in 2200 mothers' associations.

In January 1931 the title of the magazine was changed from " Die Mutter " to " Frau und Mutter ". In the years that followed, the content was marked, among other things, by clear criticism of the rise of National Socialism . Shortly before the Reichstag election in 1932, an article appeared under the title “Mothers! Be on the watch! ”. In 1939 the magazine was banned by the National Socialists.

After the Second World War , Frau und Mutter appeared again for the first time in 1948 with the subtitle monthly for Catholic women in family and work and a length of 16 pages. The editing was in the hands of Maria Vielhaber . From 1957 the magazine was again the official magazine of the Central Association of Catholic Women and Mothers' Communities. In 1960 Anneliese Lissner took over the editing of the paper. When she was elected the first general secretary of the now Catholic women's community in Germany in 1972, Ruth Ahl and Helma Schilasky-Palm took over the editing. During this time the magazine developed more and more into the political and association medium of the newly established Federal Association of the kfd. In autumn 1980 Barbara Leckel took the place of Helma Schilasky-Palm.

In 1986 Anneliese Knippenkötter and Barbara Leckel took over the editorial team from his wife and mother . First, they changed the spelling of the title to “ woman + mother ”. In 1988 this was then changed to " Frau + Mutter ", which led to storms of protest. The title can be retained after deep disputes. In 1998 Barbara Leckel became the responsible editor of the kfd member magazine. In 2002, the magazine was redesigned and now appears in a larger format, in full-color printing and with a significantly changed design concept.

Since January 2011 the magazine has been published with the subtitle "Menschen Leben Diversity - magazine of the kfd". In 2015 Barbara Leckel retired. Nikola Hollmann followed her. In 2017, the wife and mother celebrated their 100th anniversary. Since July 1, 2018, Jutta Laege has been the new editor-in-chief of the wife and mother .
