Women in science and technology

Women in Science and Technology V. (NUT e.V.) is a network of women who work or study in scientific and technical fields. The association was founded in 1988 at the annual congress of women in science and technology . The office is in Berlin.

History and activities

In the course of the women's movement in the 1970s, women from the natural sciences and technical fields also appeared in public. Until then, they were "invisible" in their professional fields, courses and at universities ". They organized themselves into interest and professional groups and initiated high-profile campaigns. The first Congress of Women in Science and Technology was held in 1977. Nut eV has organized the annual nationwide congress since it was founded in 1988 . For the 40th anniversary in 2017, a conference entitled Feminist 4.40 - 40 Years "Women in Science and Technology" (FiNuT) took place in the Deutsches Technikmuseum Berlin .

According to the University of Duisburg-Essen (as of 2018), Nut eV has around 300 members from scientific and technical subjects such as biology, chemistry, physics, technical environmental protection, computer science, agricultural science, mathematics and process engineering. The five-member board includes u. a. Helene Götschel . The association promotes and supports women in these areas and represents their interests to the public. Other activities include interdisciplinary cooperation and the reduction of discrimination against women in training and work, and feminist criticism of the natural sciences. A series of publications by the association was published between 1991 and 2009 in 12 volumes by Thalheimer Verlag and is cited in specialist literature on gender studies and natural sciences.

The association is a member of the umbrella organization of the German Women's Council and is involved in the National Pact for Women in MINT Professions. The history of the association is archived by the German Museum of Technology Berlin Foundation.
