Helene Götschel

Helene Götschel (* 1963 in Bayreuth ) is a German physicist, science historian and gender researcher. She holds a " Maria-Goeppert-Mayer " professorship for gender in engineering and computer science at the University of Hanover .

life and work

Götschel studied physics in Hamburg and Tübingen from 1983 to 1990 and did her doctorate as a social and economic historian. She also studied history of science, university didactics and gender research in Tübingen and Hamburg.

She was visiting professor at the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg , the Technical University of Kaiserslautern and the Technical University of Darmstadt. In 2015 she was appointed Maria Goeppert Mayer Professor for "Gender in Engineering and Computer Science" at the University of Hanover . In 2020 she will be a KI²VA visiting professor at the Technical University of Darmstadt at the Institute for General Education and Vocational Education.

Götschel is primarily concerned with gender research in the natural sciences and with the history of physics.

She is a member of the board of directors of the Women in Science and Technology Association .
