The Saar Women's Gender Library (formerly Saar Women's Library ) is a specialist library in Saarbrücken that focuses on women and gender research . She advocates equal cooperation between the sexes and comprehensive minority rights .

Focus

One focus of the facility is the specialist library on women's and gender issues. It is dedicated to the topics of current gender research , gender history , feminism , international women's movements , migration , labor market research, masculinity research, and fiction . The collection includes monographs , specialist journals , gray literature , reference works , statistics , audio and video documents and press dossiers and is recorded in a database and can be accessed via OPAC . Other focal points are the research, documentation, archiving and communication of Saar women's history .

financing

The library was founded in 1990 as a non-profit association. It is publicly funded. The city of Saarbrücken provides rent-free premises and contributes to the acquisition budget, while the state subsidizes the personnel costs. There is also an association that supports the library with membership fees. The library team consists of four employees (as of January 2014).

Saar women archive

The collection contains historical and contemporary books, original documents such as posters, leaflets, buttons, press articles (largely complete editions of the Saarland women's magazines Charme, Lila Distel and donnawetter) and audio documents on the history of women in Saarland and the more recent women's movement . The Biografia database contains biographical data on politicians, authors, artists, scientists and historical personalities who worked or lived in Saarland.

The research and documentation work carried out in the archive as well as the material inventory are available to researchers and interested parties.

A program of events with lectures and seminars is intended to convey feminist discourses to the public. Educational offers for small groups, including city tours upon request, are offered regularly.

Mentoring network for female migrants (MiNET Saar)

The Saar Women's Gender Library is building a mentoring network for female migrants (MiNET Saar) in Saarland together with partners from the municipal and regional women's and migration sectors and in international cooperation. Promotion and education-oriented migrant women with the desire for a new orientation are brought together in this network with volunteer mentors in a tandem that is available to support them for a period of one year; Seminars from the Saar Women's Gender Library are also offered.

The Saar Women's Gender Library is a member of ida , the umbrella association of German-speaking women / lesbian libraries, archives and documentation centers, and of the German Library Association Saar (dbv saar).
