The Fraundorfer Aeronautics AG is a technology and aerospace company headquartered in the Bavarian town of Donauwörth - Genderkingen . It deals with the development of special aircraft . The technology demonstrator “Tensor 600X” successfully completed its maiden flight in early 2020 after seven years of development; the market launch should take place in the same year.

founding

The founder Christoph Fraundorfer started working on the technology that is the basis for the Tensor 600X in 2007. He is an aerospace engineer and a graduate of the Empire Test Pilots' School in England.

background

Fraundorfer Aeronautics AG is a Bavarian technology and aviation company. By using the most modern simulation methods, it has developed and patented a new rotor technology with which gyrocopter becomes a powerful, efficient and environmentally friendly alternative to airplanes and helicopters. The company has the vision of flying in areas where it was previously not possible. Based on its technology, Fraundorfer Aeronautics will launch the “Tensor 600X” itself in 2020, an aircraft for personal air mobility for everyday use.

Technology demonstrator

The tensor 600X is a completely newly developed combination gyrocopter . The two-seater machine has a range of up to 600 kilometers and a maximum cruising speed of 200 km / h.

First flight

First flight of the Technology Demonstrator Tensor 600X

After seven years of development, the Tensor 600X completed its official maiden flight on January 24, 2020 . During the one-hour flight, speeds of up to 130 km / h and altitudes of 500 meters were reached. Several take-offs and landings as well as stability and controllability tests were carried out.

technology

The technology of the Tensor 600X is the basis for a new, significantly more powerful generation of aircraft. With this, the company wants to establish efficient and environmentally friendly transport in the air that is independent of the infrastructure on the ground.

With the successful maiden flight, the company is demonstrating the capabilities of its patented technology : It enables vertical takeoff; quiet, easy to use and cheap to fly; it is efficient and designed for alternative drives and already meets the safety standards that are the basis for the necessary legal approvals.

The tensor works with the principle of autorotation . The energy contained in the air is used to drive the rotor. In addition, a wing generates additional lift and thereby increases performance and stability. The aircraft is about twice as efficient as a comparable helicopter and has a range of 600 kilometers and a maximum cruising speed of 200 km / h.

The concept of the machine is prepared for all forms of future mobility. It is designed for various types of drive such as electric and hydrogen drive . The use with autonomous and vertically starting systems is also technically possible.

Based on the technology, the company will launch the “Tensor 600X”, a two-seater aircraft for personal air mobility, on the market in 2020. Aviation is thus becoming a fast, safe, individual and everyday means of transport in the premium mobility market for medium distances between 50 and 600 kilometers.

Areas of application

Areas of application for the Tensor are, for example, airport shuttle services in urban areas. But the Tensor also offers great advantages between cities and in regions with weak infrastructure, for example for rescue services, on transport flights or in disaster control . Because the machine flies very safely, even in poor weather conditions, can be operated at low cost and needs a few meters of take-off or landing area. From the middle of the decade, a larger variant of the aircraft will also come onto the market on the Tensor platform.
