Frauscher boatyard

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Frauscher GmbH & Co KG is a boat manufacturer based in Ohlsdorf in the district of Gmunden, Austria.

history

The founder Engelbert Frauscher started a boat building on the Old Danube in Vienna in 1927 and moved with his family to Gmunden on the Traunsee in the post-war period.

Frauscher built the Olympic dinghies for the Austrian Sailing Club, which were used at the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin. In the 1950s the “Fish” and “Starfish” motor boats were built in the Frauscher boatyard and the Norwegian Yngling, a regatta boat, was represented.

In 1971, Hans and Ernst Frauscher, the founder's sons, made a first change in the company with the construction of polyester boats. After the legal ban on motor boats on the Traunsee came into force, the lightweight electric boat made of plastic was used. In the shipyard in Moosham near Gmunden, built in 1976, several hundred electric boats were produced in the following years.

From 1979 the Frauscher shipyard produced the H-boat after taking over the license from the Finnish sailing association. This sailing boat was a success for the family business from both an economic and a sporting point of view.

Hans Frauscher became world champion in 1982 with the H-boat . Stefan Frauscher won the world championships with it in 2002.

From 1988 the headquarters of the Frauscher shipyard were located at the Weyer sailing port in Gmunden. In the course of a restructuring, the company was converted into a GmbH & Co KG in 1993 and Stefan Frauscher, son of Hans Frauscher, joined the company in 1996. His brother Michael Frauscher is a certified boat builder and has been with the company since 1982.

As a result, new trends in the design of electric and motor yachts were set and the Frauscher brand established. In 2010 the Frauscher 717 GT received the “Powerboat of the Year” award.

Frauscher opened up the luxury segment with the construction of a modern shipyard in Ohlsdorf in the Gmunden district and the opening of a sales office at Port Adriano on Mallorca. The luxury yacht 1414 Demon marks a milestone and is considered an important step in the development of Frauscher boats and the expansion of the product range from lake to sea.

In 2001, a fire at the Weyer sailing harbor destroyed 60 boats and the boathouse. A new boathouse was built in the same place in 2002 and the Frauscher Hafen, managed by Andrea Frauscher-Oberfrank, was last expanded in 2015. This address is home to an exhibition hall and a shop for the company.

The founder Engelbert Frauscher died on January 22, 1989.

Ernst Frauscher, the founder's eldest son, is considered a pioneer of boat building and died on October 16, 2017.
