The H-boat is the largest in Europe, the second largest in the world and the largest non-Olympic class of keelboat .

history

The sailing boat has been sold as a one- size-fits-all class by various shipyards (e.g. Artekno OY (FIN), Botnia (FIN), Ott Yacht (GER), Frauscher (AUT), Eagle Marine (FIN), Elvstrøm (DK), Hydrospeed), etc. .) and Saare Yachts OÜ (EST) made of GRP , the designer is the Finn Hans Groop . The letter "H" in the designation H-Boot is derived from the designer's first name.

The German boatyard Ott Yacht, the Austrian boatyard Frauscher and the Finnish shipyard Eagle Marine currently (as of 2016 ) have the license from the ISAF (International Sailing Federation) to build H-boats. On the basis of these license agreements, the shipyards are obliged to comply with the class rules when building and equipping an H-boat. A surveying system controls the shipyards to ensure that an H-boat complies with the class rules when it leaves the respective shipyard.

The maximum crew of the boat is six people. There is space for three to four bunks in the cabin . The cockpit is self-draining . In regattas, the boat is sailed with a crew of three to four men and a maximum crew weight of 300 kg.

The popularity of the boat (over 5,300 H-boats were built worldwide by 2007) is explained on the one hand by its suitability for regattas, on the other hand it is also a safe, good-natured family and touring boat, as demonstrated by a successful crossing of the Atlantic in 2001.
