Jesper Bank (born April 6, 1957 in Fredericia ) is a Danish sailor who is one of the best match race sailors in the world. Along with Paul Elvstrøm, he is Denmark's most famous and successful professional sailor.

Life

At the Olympic Games in Sydney 2000 Jesper Bank won his second gold medal in the match race against Jochen Schümann .

Jesper Bank was the skipper of the German United Internet Team Germany during the challenger round of the 32nd America's Cup 2007 . Since the campaign under his leadership had failed to achieve its ambitious goals and Jesper Bank was heavily criticized by the German press, he resigned from his post as skipper, helmsman and sporting director after the team left. It was his 2nd participation in the America's Cup. At the 31st America's Cup held on the Hauraki Gulf off New Zealand in 2003, he was the helmsman for the Swedish syndicate Victory Challenge .

In November 2008, Jesper Bank and the former CEO Claus Olsen bought the Elvstrøm Sails sailmaker in Åbenrå (Denmark) from the owner Peter Jørgensen. Bank was already a member of the board of directors of the company from 1992 to 2001. The sailmaker, founded by the multiple Danish Olympic champion Paul Elvstrøm , is to increasingly manufacture large-area sails for yachts over 70 feet in length and for maxi yachts .

In 1992, Bank was voted Denmark's Sportsman of the Year together with Jesper Seier and Steen Secher and has been a member of the Hall of Fame for Danish Sports since 2009 .
