Steen Secher, who sailed in the Fredericia Sejlklub , took part in two Olympic Games in the Soling boat class . On his Olympic debut in 1988 in Seoul , he finished third as a crew member of Jesper Bank , whose crew was completed by Jan Mathiasen . With 52.7 points they lagged far behind the GDR boat around Jochen Schümann with 11.7 points and the Americans around John Kostecki with 14 points, but they secured the bronze medal ahead of the British boat with 67.1 points . Four years later , Secher was again a crew member of the Danish boat of skipper Jesper Bank in Barcelona , this time alongside Jesper Seier . After six races in the Fleet Race , they qualified with 34 points in second place for the final round, which was held in the Match Race . With three wins and two defeats they made it to the semi-finals. After a 2-0 win against the German boat, a 2-0 victory against the Americans followed in the final, making the Danes Olympic champions . For this success, Secher, Seier and Bank were voted Denmark's Sportsman of the Year . In the same year Secher won the silver medal at the World Championships in Cadiz . The 1992 Olympic Games were his last international regatta.
