Hans Groop

Hans Groop (* 1932 in Vaasa ) is a Finnish yacht designer who worked in Helsinki at the Wärtsiläs shipyard in his profession and as head of public relations .

He designed more than 100 sailing yachts and motor boats . The best known design was the 3-man keelboat H-Boot in 1967, which became one of the most popular unit classes in the world with a total of over 5,300 units built today. The letter "H" in the designation H-Boot is derived from the designer's first name. Hans Groop is a member of the Helsinki sailing club Helsingfors Segelsällskap (HSS), a leading yacht club for smaller keelboats in the Scandinavian countries. The yacht club also initiated the development of the H-boat to replace the popular but now outdated shark boat .

Hans Groop also designed a 5.5mR yacht for King Olav of Norway . With this yacht, the king won the silver medal at the 1985 World Championships in California (USA).

He also constructed larger yachts of 54, 72 and 76 feet in length (16.45 m - 23.17 m).

Hans Groop is a very skilled sailor who has also won several championships. Today he sails the very elegant and comfortable yacht IS 400, which he designed himself.
