Frechulf
Frechulf was Bishop of Lisieux in Normandy from around 820 to 850 .
He was a loyal follower of Louis the Pious . At the request of Chancellor Helisachar, whom he calls his teacher, Frechulf wrote a work on ancient history, to which he added a second book from the birth of Christ to the fall of the Roman Empire . He dedicated this to the Empress Judith around 830 in order to use it for teaching her son Karl . Made with skill and great learning for the time, this story shows us the level of education that was reached in Carolingian times. It is also strange that here, contrary to the other view in the Middle Ages, the Roman Empire is simply regarded as past and no artificial transfer to the Carolingian Empire is attempted.
