Fred Amata

Fred Amata (born May 18, 1963 in Lagos ) is a Nigerian actor, producer and director. He is the son of John and Joy Amata, who were both Nigerian actors. In 2016 he was elected President of the Directors Guild of Nigeria and comes from the state of Edo in the Niger Delta.

Life

Fred Amata was born in 1963 in Edo State, Nigeria. Although he was born in Lagos, he grew up in Warri, Abraka and Jos. His father, John Ifoghale Amata, who died in 1997, is a well-known Nigerian playwright and actor who introduced Fred to the entertainment industry at an early age. His father is known for having produced and written the film "Freedom" (1957) as well as for having played a role in it. His siblings Zack, Alex, Erumena, Ruke, Elomai and his nephew Jeta Amata are also all active in the entertainment industry (as producers, directors and actors).

He started acting at the age of 8 as a child actor, mainly in plays in Nigeria. He completed a degree in theater arts at the University of Jos .

He has two children with well-known Nigerian media entrepreneur, television presenter and talk show host Agatha Amata and a daughter with Ibinabo Fiberesima , a Nigerian actress and former President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria.
