Fred Giannelli (born March 12, 1960 in Medford ) is an American musician, producer and label owner.

Life

Giannelli came into contact with Genesis P-Orridge in 1984 , on whose label Temple Records he released a 12 " under the name Turning Shrines in the following year . In 1987, after Alex Fergusson's retirement, he joined P-Orridge's group Psychic TV as a tour guitarist and advanced there to the keyboardist and songwriter, who also composed the single hit “IC Water” and released several albums with Psychic TV on Temple Rec. Giannelli is one of the pioneers of acid house . It is sometimes claimed that Psychic TV uses this term in the His time with Giannelli in the first place, and in 1988 he released a solo album as Turning Shrinesand with Caresse, the daughter of Genesis P-Orridge, as Caresse & Sickmob, a cover version of Jimi Hendrix '"Are you experienced".

In 1990, after a financially disastrous tour, there was a falling out with P-Orridge, whereupon Giannelli founded the Telepathic Records label in 1991 . He then published his own productions, in which he specialized in experimental techno and acid house in the future . He worked with Richie Hawtin (as Spawn ) and Cari Lekebusch and added other musicians to his label repertoire. Giannelli later appeared as a live act, particularly in techno clubs and festivals.

Giannelli's productions and his live repertoire are characterized by a love of experimentation and humor, but due to their avant-garde minimalism they only serve a specialist audience. His style is influenced by Detroit techno on the one hand and German techno on the other. His vinyl releases on Telepathic were sold as two compilation CDs by the techno label Superstition in Germany, but he is represented on countless techno compilations as a producer or remixer, and tours around the world have taken him.

Gianelli uses the following pseudonyms, among others: Acid Didj , Fred , FredEx , Fred vom Jupiter , Kooky Scientist , Sickmob and Turning Shrines .
