Fred Herzog (basketball player)

Fredrick Herzog (born December 23,  1969 in Newark (New Jersey) ) is a retired American basketball player .

Life

The 2.06-meter-tall winger was part of the Fordham University team  in the first NCAA division from 1987 to 1992 . In his final game year 1991/92, Herzog achieved an average of 17.9 points and 6.4 rebounds per use. In 1991 and 1992 he was with Fordham champions of the Patriot League. When he left college, he was sixth on the all-time basketball list with 1,435 points. In 1999, the Duke, known for his good distance throw, was accepted into the university team's hall of fame .

Herzog moved to the professional camp in 1992, the Rockford Lightning team from the US league CBA secured the rights to the winger. However, he did not initially play for Rockford, but in another US league, the GBA, for the Cedar Rapids Sharpshooters. In the spring season 1993 he played for the Australian team Canberra Cannons in the league NBL , played there in 1994 and scored an average of 21.7 points per game for the Cannons. Nevertheless, there was a separation, Herzog stayed in Australia and moved to the Tuggeranong Minstrels, for whom he scored 106 points in a game in the ACT State League in mid-July 1994, 67 of them in the second half of the game. His team won the game against the Weston Creek Dodgers 142-88. In the 1994/95 season he strengthened the Sioux Falls Skyforce in the US league CBA. In 1995 he was again active in the Australian NBL and was under contract with the Gold Coast Rollers.

In the 1995/96 season he was in the service of the CBA teams Rockford Lightning and Sioux Falls Skyforce . In preparation for the 1996/97 season he was part of the training squad of the NBA team Chicago Bulls , at the end of October 1996 he was removed from the squad and then played again for Rockford Lightning in the CBA. During the 96/97 season, Herzog moved to the French first division club PSG Racing and played three games for the Paris team and contributed to winning the French championship.

Herzog continued his career with the Mitsui Falcons in Japan in 1997/98 and was then back on the field in the CBA in 1998/99: first with the Quad City Thunder, then he was given up to the La Crosse Bobcats. After stints in other US leagues (IBL and USBL), Herzog was signed by the German Bundesliga club BCJ Hamburg for the 2000/01 game year . With 17.2 points per encounter he was the second best basketball player in Hamburg and with 74 successful three-point throws he was the team's most accurate distance thrower.

In the 2001/02 season he strengthened the Portuguese first division club Portugal Telecom, with whom he was national champion and posted 12.8 points per game. His last stop in professional basketball was the Polish first division team Stal Ostrow Wielkopolski, for whom he played at the beginning of the 2002/03 season, but only played three appearances.
