Fred Mayer and his wife Ilse

Fred Mayer (born February 28, 1933 in Lucerne ) is a photographer with dual Swiss-German citizenship. He worked for Stern , Geo , Neue Zürcher Zeitung , Schweizer Illustrierte and various press agencies, including ATP, DPA and AFP . He also published various portfolios and books and worked for Magnum Photos.

Life

Fred Mayer is married to Keystone photographer Ilse Günther.

Mayer has published over 30 books to date, often together with his wife. This also includes an illustrated book about the Vatican. The book was published by Orell Füssli Verlag, Switzerland . He also traveled to Indonesia for Magnum Photos , where he wrote a report on the then President Surkano . Mayer also accompanied the former King Hussein of Jordan for a long time. Fred Mayer also published Hommage to Hermann Hesse and his Siddhartha , an illustrated book inspired by Hesse's novella . In the illustrated book, Mayer tried to capture various scenes from Siddhartha with his camera.

Awards

In 2006 Mayer received an award for his life's work from the Association of Swiss Professional Photographers (SBF). He was also nominated for a Best of ASMP Award in 2011.
