Freddie Pascual Aguilar (* 5. February 1953 ) is a Filipino folk - rock musician and songwriter .

Career

Most of his songs are in the pinoy style , with Aguilar being one of the first musicians to combine western music with the native Tagalog language . With his song Anak (Tagalog for 'child') he won the finals at the Metro Manila Popular Song Festival in 1978 . This song became a hit far beyond the Philippines, in Germany the song reached number 39 in 1980 and number 2 in the Netherlands. The song was later covered by Michael Holm under the title "Kind" and by the Kelly Family under the Title "All Children Need Friends". In 1986 he sang Bayan Ko , a song the opposition used in their fight against Ferdinand Marcos .

Freddie Aguilar writes many socially critical songs, but also love songs. He not only writes and composes his songs himself, but also arranges and produces them. In July 2009 Freddie Aguilar opened "Ka Freddie's Music Bar and Restaurant" in Manila / Malate. In mid-2013 he moved his music bar to Quezon City (120 Tomas Morato Ave. cor. Kamuning Road). He himself performs there every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.

Through his success, Freddie Aguilar influenced numerous musicians in East Asia, each of whom used native lyrics to music with a western influence.
