Fredericton Railway

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Fredericton Railway was a railway company in the Canadian province of New Brunswick . It was founded on April 16, 1866 and built a 36-kilometer branch line from the European and North American Railway (E & NAR) to the provincial capital Fredericton . The connection to the main line took place in Hartts Mills station , which was later renamed Fredericton Junction . The line went into operation at the end of 1869 after the E & NAR had opened, which also ran the business. Like these, the railway was built in Cape gauge (1676 mm), but together with the E & NAR in 1877 it was converted to standard gauge . In 1884 the New Brunswick Railway acquired the company and incorporated the railway into its network. The Canadian Pacific Railway later took over the railway. The line was last used by the Canadian Atlantic Railway , but has now been closed except for a short industrial connection at Fredericton Junction.
