Fredum

Fredum (or Fredus) is a medieval legal term.

The fredum was the peace money to be paid to the judge or the treasury for it , which gave the criminal who had paid the injured person the atonement ( compsoito or penance ) peace, i.e. H. obtained full legal protection. It was usually a third of the penance.

The fredum was later called "Wette" (bet).
