advantages

Since the universities in Germany usually only have a very limited number of cooperation agreements with foreign universities, the choice of country, city and university for studying abroad is very limited. As a free mover, however, a student is not bound by the cooperation agreements of their own university and can therefore choose the university of their choice from the large pool of all universities in the world, where they would like to study abroad.

disadvantage

A major disadvantage is the high organizational effort a student has to face when completing his studies abroad as a free mover. He must be among other things

  • apply to the university of your choice yourself,
  • Find the courses yourself from the course catalog of the university of your choice and have them validated by your own university,
  • take care of suitable accommodation yourself.

In addition, students who make use of the cooperation agreements of their own university often have financial advantages (e.g. waiver of tuition fees ).

support

Support is provided by various organizations that support free movers from choosing a country to applying to the university of their choice.
