The privately run Free Montessori School (FMS) in Altach in the Feldkirch district , which runs an elementary school and a middle school with public rights, was founded in 1981 and looks after around 140 students annually. Publicly recognized certificates are issued, which are confirmed by the Vorarlberg school inspectorate.

With the start of the 2019/2020 school year, the FMS will become the first Buddhist school in Austria. The Austrian Buddhist Religious Society (ÖBR) became a member of the FMS Altach association. This partnership puts the FMS on an equal footing with the public schools and receives as many teaching hours from the federal government as a public school, which means that the school fees for parents can be reduced by around 20%. The FMS offer is being expanded to include an upper level.

history

In the spring of 1981, on the initiative of Hannelore and Bruno Madlener and with the help of Maria Summer, the first discussions with the authorities regarding the establishment of a private elementary school took place. In July 1981 the founding meeting of the private elementary school Rankweil took place in the Gasthof Sternen in Rankweil . On September 13, 1981, the school started with two classes in Maria Summer's house. In 1984 the school moved to the premises of the BFI Rankweil. In 1985/1986 the company moved to Altach to the Huchler building. In the same year the public right for the elementary school was granted. In 1986/1987 the company moved to the Kopf company building in Altach.

In 1988 the five-day week was introduced. For the first time children with increased needs (integration children) were admitted. In 1990 an initiative was started to continue the school as a secondary school. In 1994 the pedagogical concept was redesigned and oriented towards the principles of Maria Montessori , with the school remaining open to other reform pedagogical concepts. In 1996, cross-year classes were introduced for all grades. In 2001 the school moved to the new school building. From 2004 the public rights for the middle school were granted and from 2006 also for the 6th school year. In 2006 the school name was also changed to Free Montessori School . In 2007/2008 the permanent public rights for the Free Montessori School in Altach were obtained.

performance evaluation

The Free Montessori School in Altach does not assign numerical grades in grades 1 to 7. School attendance confirmations, workbooks, half-yearly parent-student-teacher discussions, development reports and coaching discussions take the place of grade certificates. As in every other middle school in Austria, students only receive a grade certificate in the 8th grade.
