The Free Swimmer Hannover von 1919 eV is a Hanoverian swimming sports club that emerged from the workers' sports movement after the end of the First World War . In the period from 1933 to 1945 the association was banned by the National Socialists and the association's assets were confiscated.

Sports activities have always focused on swimming and water polo . A triathlon division has also existed since 2002 . There is also an extensive range of popular sports . The current membership at the end of 2005 was 650 people. The free swimmers are based in the Hainholz district , where they built an outdoor swimming pool next to a clubhouse since 1953 and have been running it since then.

As early as the 1920s, the water polo teams of the free swimmers celebrated major successes on a national level. After a few decades of popular sports, the water polo sector has been performance-oriented again since the early 1990s. As a result of this development, the youth B team of the Free Swimmers Hanover became German water polo champions in 1991.

The men's team of the Free Swimmers Hanover was promoted to the then Regionalliga Nord in 1998 and won the title of North German Water Polo Champion three times in a row between 2001 and 2003 and the North German Water Polo Cup five times in a row from 1999 to 2003. In 2003 he was promoted to what was then the one-piece second division (DWL II). From 2006 to 2009 the team played in the top German league, the German Water Polo League (DWL).
