The Freie Turnerschaft Schweinfurt e. V. (short: FT Schweinfurt ) is a sports club from Schweinfurt . It offers football , handball , netball , volleyball , gymnastics , athletics and bowling and is particularly important for the city through its football department.
history
FT Schweinfurt was founded in 1902 and stands in the tradition of the workers' sports movement of the time. In 1922, the club built its own sports facility with a restaurant in the then newly created Gartenstadt district . After the Second World War, a bowling alley, tennis courts and a club's own leisure center in Haselbach in the Rhön followed .
Today the club has seven departments, of which the soccer department has a special position as a long-standing Bavarian national league team with three active and many youth teams. With a total of 1,160 games over 34 seasons in the Landesliga Nord (between 1981 and 2012) and Landesliga Nordwest (2012 to 2015), FT Schweinfurt is the Bavarian record holder (as of May 2018). The club's greatest success so far was its participation in the relegation games to the Bayern League in 1982.
In the 2019/20 season, the first football team will compete in the sixth-class Bayern Northwest regional league . The free gymnastics association's venues are its own Kleinflürleinsweg sports grounds and various adjacent spaces on the grounds of the Schweinfurt Willy Sachs Stadium .
