Freeforms
The free forms is a manufacturing process from the group of pressure forming which also includes the closely related swaging counts. Free forming is a manufacturing process with a free flow of material across the tool movement. The tools ( saddles ) used contain no or only some form elements of the workpiece. The forming forces and tool movement are applied by machines (presses, hammers). The workpiece is usually moved by hand.
The picture shows a large, NC -controlled free-form machine that prepares flat sheet metal pieces for pressing . The work process is called drifting .
Classification according to DIN 8583
All pressure forming processes are described in DIN 8583. All have a unique serial number, which starts with the sequence 2.1.2 (2nd main group forming , 1st group pressure forming , 2nd process (free forming )):
- 2.1.2.1 Stretching
- 2.1.2.1.1 Finishing (finishing lines)
- 2.1.2.1.2 expansion
- 2.1.2.1.3 Maintain
- 2.1.2.1.4 Setting down by stretching
- 2.1.2.2 Swaging
- 2.1.2.3 widths
- 2.1.2.4 upsetting
- 2.1.2.4.1 flat embossing
- 2.1.2.4.1.1 Customizing
- 2.1.2.4.1.2 Smooth embossing
- 2.1.2.4.2 upsetting
- 2.1.2.4.2.1 Electrical upsetting (only sub-variant of upsetting)
- 2.1.2.4.1 flat embossing
- 2.1.2.5 Drifting
- 2.1.2.6 tails
- 2.1.2.7 Dengeln
