The Fremont Troll is a plastic that is located under the north end of the George Washington Memorial Bridge (also called Aurora Bridge ) on Troll Avenue North in the Fremont neighborhood of Seattle , Washington state .

description

The approximately 5.5 meter (18 foot) high work of art shows the head, shoulders and arms of a monster crushing a VW Beetle in its left hand . His left eye contains a metal element, probably a hubcap . The Beetle the troll is holding was originally a memorabilia of Elvis Presley , and the vehicle also had a license plate from California . These elements are no longer present after vandalism on the work of art. The statue consists of a steel skeleton with a concrete coating and weighs 6350 kg.

history

The sculpture was erected on Halloween 1990 by Steve Badanes, Will Martin, Donna Walter and Ross Whitehead under the northern end of the Aurora Bridge for an art competition organized by the Fremont Arts Council . Every October 31st, the community celebrates a "Trollaween Party" in honor of the Fremont Troll . This festival is connected with a parade that begins under the bridge and leads to other curious sights of the community, including the largest statue of Lenin in the USA.

The troll statue has become one of the landmarks of the Fremont borough that uses it on its homepage.
