Frente de Liberación Popular

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Frente de Liberación Popular (Spanish for People's Liberation Front , abbreviated to FLP or FELIPE ) was a secret anti- Francoist opposition group in Spain that existed between 1958 and 1969, during the time of the Franco dictatorship . The FLP was founded by Julio Cerón . Among the members were personalities such as José Luis Leal , Pasqual Maragall , José Pedro Pérez Llorca and Miguel Roca .

Even Cayetana Fitz-James Stuart was a member of the Popular Liberation Front . The FLP was born in response to the left's failure to gain a foothold in Franco's Spain. The FLP was inspired and at the same time inspiration for other left socialist parties such as the Parti socialiste unifié in France and the Partito Socialista Italiano di Unità Proletaria in Italy . The FLP was influenced by the new left and movements that had been formed in the Third World .

The Catalan counterpart to the FLP was the Front Obrer de Catalunya ( Catalan Workers' Front ) and the Basque counterpart was the Euskadiko Socialists Batasuna ( National Socialist Union ).

In 1962 there was a wave of arrests by the Spanish police, which led to the arrest of numerous members.
