Food parcels

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The term Fresspäckli or Frässpäckli comes from the parlance of the Swiss Army . These are packages that can be sent free of charge to people in military service via the field post system. The term is also used very often by Swiss youth organizations ( scouts , young guard , etc.) when they organize camps.

Legal

  • The weight limit is 5 kg; if it is exceeded, the entire postage must be borne by the sender himself.
  • A maximum of 5 items per day may be sent from the same sender to the same military address.

Records

Up until 2006 there was often a competition as to who would receive the most packages in one day. In 2005 alone, there were around 20 new records. These records were organized and implemented by friends and acquaintances. The last record was set on February 10, 2006: A total of 555 packages were received by Marco Meyer, a recruit at the Gossau barracks ( St. Gallen ). The action was organized by his girlfriend, who wanted to bring the record back to Eastern Switzerland after the Aargau residents beat her record of 365 parcels with 444 parcels. Shortly afterwards - on March 9, 2006 - it was declared in a media release by the DDPS that from March 15, 2006 only five parcels per day from the same sender will be sent free of charge.
