Volleys of joy

Freuden-Salven is a waltz by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 171). The work was performed for the first time on July 17, 1855 in the Volksgarten in Vienna.

Remarks

The waltz joy salvos was composed on the occasion of the return of Emperor Franz Joseph I from a trip to Galicia . The entire event on July 17, 1855 in the Volksgarten was dedicated to this event. One has to attest the composer a certain ingratiation to the government and the monarchy. Strauss had sympathized with the revolution of that time in 1848. He wanted to make this behavior forgotten after their suppression. As a result, he composed several works in which he paid homage to members of the imperial family. This composition must also be seen in this context. But his commitment has paid off for him. He was appointed court ball music director in 1863. Strauss also attached importance to the fact that the following text was to be read on the print edition of the waltz Freuden-Salven : On the occasion of the joyful return of Sr. Majesty Franz Joseph I on July 9, 1855 (composed) .

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 6 minutes and 18 seconds. Depending on the musical conception of the conductor, this time can change by up to a minute plus or minus.
