Friabilimeter

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A friabilimeter is used to determine the friability of barley malt grains through an abrasion process. The determination of the friabilimeter value serves, along with other indicators, for the standardized analysis of the chemical relationships in or the properties or quality of barley malt.

functionality

The malt is ground in a standardized grinding apparatus and the resulting smaller parts are sieved off. Then the corresponding part of larger parts is weighed. From this part, the proportion of all or down to 75% of the original grain size is then determined. In addition to the device properties, the water content of the malt, which is taken into account as a comparison by grinding a standardized malt, is decisive for calibration.
