The peace bell was cast in the year of the Peace of Westphalia in 1648. As one can learn from the chronicle of the mayor Valentin Herr , the bell founder Jean Maillard from Toul had stopped in Bad Neustadt while passing through. After the original church bell was damaged, the townspeople were able to hire the bell founder to create a new bell. It was originally made for the previous church of St. Oswald.

The bell was cast on May 29, 1648. The contract provided for three payment dates for the installments. Once at the beginning of the work. Then when completing the cast. The last installment followed at the end of 1649.

Inscription and ornament

The inscription on the bell reads: PARCE DOMINE, PARCE POPULIO ET NE DES HAEREDITATEM TVAM IN OPPROBRIUM German: Have pity, Lord, for your people and do not leave your inheritance to shame, so that the peoples do not mock us (Joel 2:17) there are several decorations on the bell. The three most important are: a) the city arms b) Mary with the baby Jesus c) St. George slaying the dragon.

Technical

The bell weighs 2098 kilograms. The bell tone is "des".
