Peace Mill Petkus

The Friedensmühle Petkus is a Paltrock windmill in Petkus , a district of the town of Baruth / Mark in the Teltow-Fläming district in the state of Brandenburg .

location

The federal road 115 leads from the west in an S-shape into the historic town center and there in a north-easterly direction out of it. In the south, the Petkuser Hauptstrasse leads out of the village as Landstrasse 70 in a southerly direction. The mill is located southwest of this intersection on a slightly elevated piece of land that is enclosed with a fence .

history

A mill was first mentioned in Petkus in 1542 , but not much is known about its fate. In the 18th century this or a successor building burned down. In 1837 a new building was built, which was designed as a post mill . In 1927 the miller and baker Kostroa sold the mill to the miller Heinrich Behrendt, who fitted it with an electric drive. In 1940 operations were stopped. After the end of the Second World War , it was converted into a Paltrock windmill in 1946. In 1950 it was named Friedensmühle by the local poet Richard Conrad. At the time he warned in a newspaper article that “the mill should only grind flour in times of peace”.

In 1960 LPG took over the building to produce compound feed. However, operations were stopped in 1977 and the building fell into disrepair. After the fall of the Wall , the mill came back into the possession of the Behrendt family. In 1991, the miller Helmut Behrendt (senior) began extensive renovation work, which was completed in 1996. It was then used to produce cereal products. After Behrendt's death, operations ceased in 2007 and the mill has been maintained by his son since then.
