Cemetery (Flein)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The cemetery in Flein in the district of Heilbronn in Baden-Württemberg is located at the St. Vitus Church and goes back to the original burial place of the place.

The Fleiner Friedhof is probably as old as the St. Vitus Church. Once walled in order to protect the population in times of war in addition to funerals, the kirchhoff was mentioned as early as 1450 when the Count of Württemberg's troops took the churchyard and burned eight Fleiner there. In 1838 the cemetery was expanded to roughly double its size to the east, and in 1841 the area west of the church was converted from the cemetery to the church forecourt. In 1860 there was a further expansion, this time to the south on a parish-owned property. Further expansions to the east took place in 1888/89 and 1903. In 1927 the Friedhofstrasse was laid out, which enabled more convenient access to the cemetery from the east than the previous climb to the church from the west. In 1952 a morgue was built in the cemetery, the architectural decorations were designed by the Fleiner artist Hans Epple . In 1960 the cemetery was extended to the north by space for 240 graves, its total size was 45.85 ares. In 1980 a larger piece of land was added to the east of Friedhofstrasse, with 81.07 acres, which was considerably larger in area than the entire previous cemetery and brought the complex to its present size.
