General and history

The original cemetery in Hallesche Straße was probably built in the 16th century by the city of Bad Lauchstädt at the gates of the walled city. The exact reason for relocating the cemetery is no longer known. The most likely reasons are insufficient capacity or the additional risk for city dwellers from a rampant epidemic such as the plague . An inscription board with a dedication is located on the right entrance pillar Erioll world.svgon the corner of Hallesche Strasse and Lindenstrasse. According to this, the cemetery was expanded in 1601. According to a report by Friedrich Arnold from 1881, the Gottesackerkirche was demolished from the cemetery in 1685 due to dilapidation.

All who go over

Think how things stand with us
, - what we are, you
will become - what you have been since we were
on earth. -
Everyone's heart and courage, stands alone
on time. And when
they do that,
they lie down and die.
In 1601 this field of God was
expanded.

Mortuary and cemetery chapels

Today's neo-Romanesque morgue Erioll world.svg in the north of the cemetery on Friedhofsstraße is a new building that was built after 1876. At the same place there was previously a small cemetery chapel and in front of it a church, probably a field church . The cemetery chapel was built in 1685 from parts of the church that was demolished in 1684 and a garden house from the parish garden at the Merseburger Thore and was demolished in 1876 because it was in disrepair. The pews were also made from boards from the church , which was demolished in 1684. Nothing is known about the church, which was demolished in 1684. It is believed that it was a field church, at which a new cemetery was created. It is also not known whether the damage to the church that led to the demolition was due to its age or due to damage from the Thirty Years' War .

In the southern part of the cemetery on Lindenstrasse there is a cemetery chapel that was renovated in 2001 Erioll world.svg.
