Friedrich Ebert School (Mannheim)
The Friedrich-Ebert-Schule with children's house in Mannheim- Waldhof was planned by the architect Carlfried Mutschler and his later partner Joachim Langner and completed in 1966. The client was the city of Mannheim.
reception
According to the Mannheim city planner Andreas Schenk, the new school building has attracted worldwide attention because of its pioneering architectural and educational concept. In particular, the solution of the right angle, of the rigid storey structure and the use of free forms were an important development contribution for the architecture, which still has an effect today. The building had a lasting impact on the development of modern architecture internationally. In addition, the facility is an architectural total work of art, from the large form down to the last detail. The entire Friedrich-Ebert-Schule was placed under monument protection as an important milestone in architectural history.
future
In 2018, a general renovation with conversion of an all-day primary school is to begin. [obsolete] The conversion of the former elementary level into a day-care center with eight groups is to follow in 2021. The future of the children's home is uncertain. The successor office Mutschlers, Schwöbel + Partner took over the planning. Ludwig Schwöbel had successfully campaigned for the monument threatened with demolition.
