Friedrich Ludwig Jahn Library

The Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn-Bibliothek is an institution of the Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn-Gesellschaft eV, which has its seat in the Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn-Museum in Freyburg (Unstrut) . In its statutes, the association has set itself the goal of preserving the memory of Friedrich Ludwig Jahn and his work. The task should also be to counteract the narrowing of Jahn's image to the role of the “gymnastics father” and to provide building blocks for a complex, differentiated and thus realistic picture of his multi-layered work. The texts in the Friedrich Ludwig Jahn Library therefore also take into account the different points of view of Jahn reception.

The text corpus contributes to the understanding of the work of Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn by embedding it in the historical context and wants to trace his gymnastics, political, educational and language care history. It is taken into account that Jahn was already a controversial personality during his lifetime and that his work and importance are still controversially discussed today. At the same time, it becomes clear what lasting merits Friedrich Ludwig Jahn earned in all the controversy over his person and to what extent the history of German gymnastics (see also apparatus gymnastics ) and German national history are interwoven.
