Friedrich Burkhardt (born October 16, 1890 in Oschatz ; † after 1950) was a German trade union secretary , a police prisoner in the Buchenwald concentration camp and, after its opening, a guide through the memorial.

Life dates

Burkhardt was a trained knitter and initially worked in this profession in Apolda's textile industry . He later became union secretary at the German Textile Workers' Association . As a member of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD), he was active on the city ​​council with its mandate . During the " Operation Grid " in August 1944, he was imprisoned in the Buchenwald concentration camp with prisoner number 76,496. He was released on November 22, 1944. After the inauguration of the Buchenwald National Memorial and Memorial , he led groups of visitors there.
