Friedrich Gustav Karl Emil Erlenmeyer , called Emil, (born July 14, 1864 in Heidelberg , † February 14, 1921 in Berlin ) was a German chemist ( organic chemistry ).

He was the son of the chemist Emil Erlenmeyer and, like his father, published as “ Emil Erlenmeyer jun. ". He went to school in Munich and studied in Heidelberg, Bonn, Frankfurt am Main, Darmstadt and Marburg. In 1888 he received his doctorate at the University of Göttingen (for knowledge of phenyl-alpha and phenyl-alpha-beta-oxypropionic acid). In 1891 he completed his habilitation in Bonn and from 1893 he taught at the University of Strasbourg , from 1896 as an associate professor. In 1907 he went to the Biological Reichsanstalt in Berlin-Dahlem as a councilor, where he stayed until his death.

He did research on organic acids and published around 90 scientific papers. In 1893 he published the Erlenmeyer synthesis .

He was the father of the chemist Hans Erlenmeyer (1900–1967), who was a professor of inorganic chemistry in Basel.
