Friedrich Stehfen

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Friedrich Stehfen (born September 22, 1809 in Rausingen (today Holzwickede ), † November 28, 1879 in Rausingen) was a Holzwickeder farmer and founder of a reform home and a preparatory institute .

Friedrich Stehfen was a farmer in Rausingen (now part of Holzwickede) who was very concerned about the well-being of poor children. Here he founded the "Hellweger Education House" in 1863. In this institution abandoned and neglected children should be taken in and brought up in a Protestant - Christian way. In 1872 he also founded a teacher training facility in Holzwickede, the "Evangelical Preparatory Institute". These foundations by Friedrich Stehfen reinforced the desire to emancipate themselves from the Opherdicke parish in the Holzwickeder farmers' associations Rausingen, Dudenroth, Natorp and Holzwickede, which had been united since 1825 and ultimately led to the establishment of the independent Protestant parish in Holzwickede on October 1, 1906.

Although both facilities are now closed again, the memory of Friedrich Stehfen is still present in Holzwickede. Many teachers at the older Holzwickeder were trained in the preparation institute. A street in the village is named after him.
