Friedrich of Swabia

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Friedrich von Schwaben is a late Middle High German Minne and Aventiure novel that tells of the love of the Swabian Duke Friedrich von Schwaben (apparently a Staufer reminiscence) for an initially enchanted king's daughter Angelburg. A second version with a different ending (Angelburg dies and Friedrich marries the dwarf queen Jerome) can be deduced from the oldest (Viennese) manuscripts. Since the text alludes to Wilhelm of Austria (1314), it was written after 1314 and before the dating of the oldest manuscript (1463/64).

The novel is available in seven manuscripts and was printed in full in 1904 as the first volume of the DTM .
