tasks

The following quote describes the tasks:

"The original task of the DTM, the handwritten edition of the 'previously unprinted prosaic and poetic literary works of the 13th to 16th centuries', which, in terms of content, language and artistic form, have the right to be easily accessible for academic work', formulated by Gustav Roethe in 1904, has long since been expanded, since factual texts and inadequately edited texts or texts that exist only in rare early prints are included and the tradition is documented in the machine. The text is based on the main manuscript principleedited, that is, it is based on the tradition witness recognized as the most appropriate. Errors and omissions are corrected or supplemented, usually with the help of other, possibly related, manuscripts. Every intervention by the editor is indicated by italics, and the traditional wording is recorded in the reading apparatus. The introduction contains a precise description of the main manuscript (appearance, time and place of origin, structure, script, language, content), information on the tradition and an explanation of the editing principles. The list of names and words at the end of the volume list all names that appear in the text with brief explanations and all words that are not or incompletely explained in Middle High German dictionaries with their meanings in the relevant text. "

Manuscript archive

Attached is the manuscript archive, which stores large quantities of handwritten descriptions of German-language manuscripts from the Middle Ages and has recently made them accessible in digital form.
