Friends World Committee for Consultation

The Friends World Committee for Consultation (FWCC) is a worldwide umbrella organization of the Quakers . The FWCC sees its task in acting as a mediator between the differently oriented Quaker organizations . Founded in Swarthmore , Pennsylvania in 1937 , the FWCC's mandate was worded as follows:

Its purpose is to promote understanding among friends all over the world in an advisory capacity, particularly by encouraging joint conferences and through mutual visits, as well as by collecting and distributing information on literature and activities of the Quakers

Of the 368,000 Quakers worldwide, 265,000 are in the approximately 70 annual meetings that are affiliated with the FWCC. So about 2/3. The FWCC organizes the so-called triennial every three years in order to formulate common concerns. Between the Triennial a true Interim Committee a year to make decisions and work between the Triennial advance.

The main / world office is based in London. This office also communicates with the United Nations in New York and Geneva. The International Membership Program is also subordinate to the FWCC and aims to involve living Quakers. This is done through travel, correspondence and publications.

Another task of the FWCC is public relations work in order to make the activities of the Quakers and their concerns known to a wider public.

The FWCC is again divided into four areas:

  • Europe and Middle East Section , Headquarters: Cambridge, England
  • Section of the Americas , Headquarters: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA
