Friction igniter

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Friction detonators , also friction detonators or tear detonators, are detonators for explosive devices or illuminants , which are used in particular in pyrotechnic distress signals and hand torches . Older models of hand grenades also had friction fuses combined with a delay charge.

construction

Usually the detonator consists of a metal or cardboard sleeve. In the inner sleeve there is a friction set in which a toothed wire is embedded. Tearing out the wire ignites the charge. Depending on the intended use, this charge ignites the flare directly or it is surrounded by further sleeves with delay sentences and finally an initial explosive .
