Grand Commander of the Order of Malta
Grand Commander is one of the four high offices of the Order of Malta and is assigned to a professed knight .

The Grand Commander is elected by the General Chapter with a simple majority.
tasks
Its tasks include the dissemination of the principles of faith, the supervision of the priories and subpriorates, the preparation of the visitation reports as well as the reports on the spiritual life of the Order, which are to be sent to the Holy See .
He is responsible for the religious orientation of the professed and obedience knights and has the function of a superior to the members of the order in gremio religionis (who are not assigned to any order structure ) of the first and second class.
Furthermore, it is incumbent on him to encourage the members of the order to implement the principles of the order Tuitio Fidei et Obsequium Pauperum (witness to faith and help those in need) .
His other responsibilities include looking after the chapel of the Grand Master's Palace and organizing pilgrimages.
The Grand Commander leads the order in the event of permanent hindrance from office, resignation or death of the Grand Master as governor ad interim , who leads the current business until the end of the vacancy . If the Grand Commander is prevented from office, the Sovereign Council elects a professed profess from its members as his governor ad interim.
