Frithuwald (also Frithuwold, Friduuald, FrioÞowald ; † 585 ) was king of the Anglo-Saxon kingdom of Bernicia from 579 until his death .

Life

In older research, Frithuwald was sometimes seen as the son of King Ida von Bernicia . The exact dates of the government and the chronological order in the line of succession are not clearly secured because there are no contemporary sources. As far as we know today, he probably succeeded Theodric in 579 and reigned until 585.

In 579 King Theodric fell in a battle against Owein fab Urien von Rheged and Frithuwald succeeded to the throne. More details about his rule have not been handed down. Frithuwald died in 585. His successor is Hussa , who may have been his brother.
