Fritz Geiger

Fritz Geiger (born August 5, 1924 in Oberstdorf ; † February 4, 1980 ibid) was a German sports official and spa director of Oberstdorf, as well as a politician ( CSU ).

Life

Geiger was spa director in Oberstdorf from 1956 to 1980 and president of the DEU ( German Ice Skating Union ) from 1968 to 1980 . The large ice rink of the national performance center for figure skating in Oberstdorf, as well as the Fritz Geiger commemorative trophy awarded annually as part of the Nebelhorn Trophy in Oberstdorf, were named after him .

Geiger was team leader of the German figure skaters three times at the Olympic Games in 1968, 1972 and 1976. In 1980 in Lake Placid, he should also hold this office. However, Geiger died just days earlier at the age of 55.
